Victor Shih is the Ho Miu Lam Chair professor in China and Pacific Relations and the director of the 21st Century China Center at UC San Diego. He is the author of two books: “Factions and Finance in China” and “Coalitions of the Weak: Elite Politics in China from Mao’s Stratagem to the Rise of Xi.” An active member of the China Data Lab, Shih is principal investigator or co-principal investigatorI of several grants to collect data on elites in China. He was previously a principal in the Carlyle Group’s global market strategy group.
