Employment Opportunities

The 21st Century China Center welcomes inquiries for full-time positions supporting or contributing to various research projects across its dynamic research clusters (see below). 

We are particularly interested in individuals with a strong foundation in innovative methodologies and advanced data analysis skills. 

Formal hiring – as a postdoctoral fellow or research data analyst – is contingent on funding availability.

Research Clusters

Cluster One: Energy and Climate

This cluster addresses the unique challenges presented by China's transition to a low-carbon economy. Key research topics include:

  • Modeling renewable energy development pathways
  • Electricity market design and analysis in line with carbon neutrality 
  • The role of state-owned enterprises in adopting low-carbon technologies
  • Policy strategies that align environmental goals with industrial development and climate targets

Cluster Two: Political Economy, Industrial Policy, Technology and Innovation

This cluster explores China’s industrial policy, economic modernization, and technological innovation. Topics may include:

  • The influence of government policies on technological innovation
  • The dynamics of China's industrial upgrading
  • Comparative studies of innovation ecosystems in China and globally
  • Trade, security, and technological competition between China and the U.S.

Cluster Three: Chinese Politics, State-Society Relations, Media and Public Opinion and Policy-Making Processes

Research in this cluster focuses on China’s domestic politics, state-society relations, the study of media and public opinion, and the policy process. Topics may include:

  • China’s political institutions, policy processes and elite decision-making 
  • The evolving relationship between state policies and societal change in China
  • The study of media and social media 
  • Public opinion trends and influence on Chinese governance
  • State control and public dissent
