Philip O’Keefe is professor of practice at the University of New South Wales’ Center for Population Aging Research. He leads a policy research program on societal aging in Asia, covering issues including macro-fiscal, labor markets, social protection, health and care, and the silver economy. Between 1993 and 2021, he worked at the World Bank, most recently as practice manager for social protection and jobs for the East Asia-Pacific region. Prior to that, he was lead economist based in Beijing, New Delhi and Budapest, including leading the East Asia-Pacific’s flagship report, “Live Long and Prosper: Aging in East Asia and Pacific.” During his career at the bank, he managed lending, policy advisory and analytical work. He holds undergraduate degrees from the University of Sydney as well as postgraduate degrees in economics and law from Oxford University and the London School of Economics.
