Miles M. Yu 余茂春 is a professor of East Asia and Military History at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He served as the senior China policy advisor to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during the Trump Administration, playing a key role in redirecting America’s policy on China. He is also a senior fellow and director of the China Center at the Hudson Institute, in Washington; a senior fellow at the Institute of Project 2049, also in Washington; and the Robert Alexander Mercer Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.Yu is the author of many scholarly articles on military and intelligence history and newspaper columns. His books include “OSS in China: Prelude to Cold War” (Yale University Press, 1997) and “The Dragon’s War: Allied Operations and the Fate of China, 1937–1947” (Naval Institute Press, 2006). He has received numerous awards, including the U.S. Naval Academy’s top researcher award, U.S. Navy Special Action Awards, and the U.S. Navy Meritorious Service Award.
He received a doctorate in history from the University of California, Berkeley; a master’s degree from Swarthmore College; and a bachelor’s degree from Nankai University.
