Mattie Bekink

Mattie Bekink is the Ford Foundation’s regional director in China. Previously, she served as the China director of the Economist Intelligence Unit. Bekink had her own consultancy working primarily with nonprofit and academic clients on matters related to law, institutional strategy and communications, including supporting the establishment of NYU Shanghai, working with the law school’s U.S.-Asia Law Institute and the business school’s Center for Business and Human Rights, and with the Anne Frank House on international programming. Bekink once served as executive director of the Fulbright Commission the Netherlands and as the deputy country director for the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative China Program, and she worked as an associate at Skadden, Arps, Meagher & Flom LLP. She has a bachelor of arts in international relations from Stanford University and a juris doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center. She is also a graduate of the International School of Beijing.
