Lisa Franchetti most recently served as the 33rd chief of naval operations in the Navy and as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, advising the secretary of defense, secretary of the navy and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In this role, she ensured the readiness of the Navy’s 610,000 active and reserve sailors and civilians to execute the service’s mission in times of peace, crisis and war. 

She led at every level, commanding the USS Ross, Destroyer Squadron 21, Naval Forces Korea, two carrier strike groups, the U.S. Sixth Fleet and Striking and Support Forces NATO. She also served ashore as deputy CNO for force development, the director of strategy, plans and policy (J-5) on the Joint Staff and the 42nd vice chief of naval operations.

Franchetti set the Navy’s focus on warfighting, warfighters and building the foundation needed to address the strategic challenge posed by the PRC. She drove efforts to grow the fleet; integrate robotic and autonomous systems; improve operational readiness and shipyard maintenance performance; resolve long-standing manpower and infrastructure challenges; modernize operations centers; and improve the quality of life for sailors, civilians and families.
