Profile
Elizabeth Economy is the Hargrove Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and also serves there as co-director of the Program on U.S., China and the World. From 2021 to 2023, she served as senior adviser for China to the secretary of commerce. Previously, she was the C.V. Starr Senior Fellow and director of Asia Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations for over a decade. She is an award-winning author of four books and two edited volumes, and her most recent book is “The World According to China” (2022). Economy is a frequent contributor to foreign policy journals, such as Foreign Affairs and Foreign Policy, and to the opinion pages of the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Financial Times and the Washington Post. Economy serves on the board of managers of Swarthmore College as well as on the boards of the National Endowment for Democracy and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. She is also a member of the Aspen Strategy Group.
