Avril Haines was the seventh director of national intelligence, in which role she led the U.S. intelligence community and served as the president’s principal intelligence adviser. She has held senior roles across government, including deputy director of the CIA and principal deputy national security adviser. Haines has also held positions as a senior research scholar at Columbia University and a senior fellow at Johns Hopkins University. She holds degrees in physics and law and has served on several advisory boards.
